2022 skincare goals

by Amanda Etkind

Every January we all strive to eat more fruits and veggies, stress less, and clock in eight hours of uninterrupted shut-eye. Those are certainly admirable goals to have, but we would like to direct your attention to other resolutions that should be at the top of your list this year—and they all have to do with your skin. Caring for your complexion is paramount to your skin’s health, so why not use this upcoming new year to incorporate healthy skincare habits into your regimen so you can tackle your skincare goals once and for all. Since skincare is so nuanced, and so are your goals we chose some universal ones to focus on for the coming new year. Keep on reading for our top skincare resolutions you should have on your goals list for 2022.

Always Remove Your Makeup Before Bed

We’ve all been guilty of face planting into our pillow with a full beat in tow. Sure, it may seem harmless, but it’s not something you should let fall through the cracks. Sleeping with makeup on (even a little bit) is a surefire way to to wake up with breakouts, redness, and lots of clogged pores. If you often skip this step, try washing your face right when you end work for the day or when you get home from a long night. Another great tip is to stash a bottle of micellar makeup remover like our Clean Scene Micellar Gel ($38) on your nightstand with a couple of reusable cotton rounds for those times you’re just too tired to get to the sink. All you have to do is saturate a cotton pad with the product  and wipe the pad across your face.

Use Targeted Treatments According To Your Skin Type

There’s no one-size-fits all to skincare. Everyone has different skin types and goals. And in order to reach those skincare goals you should only choose products that work for your skin type and desires. While we can’t exactly tell you what you need. We recommend adding in treatments that are tailored to your skin type. If you have a drier skin type try using an oil or more specifically our  Glow Potion Oil Serum ($80) or our Rescue Me Rest & Reset Mask + Moisturizer ($48) for a boost of hydration. Have oily skin with clogged pores, add our Glow On Enzyme Mask ($55) for some gentle, yet effective, resurfacing action. These are just some examples of what to add in, be sure to check out our full product range to see what works best for you.

Ditch Single-Use Skincare Products and Tools

Single-use products like makeup wipes, Q-tips, razors, and cotton rounds may be a staple  in your beauty routine, but they’re seriously damaging the environment. Sure, they’re super convenient, but they end up piling up  in landfills, in the ocean, and other not-so-great places that affect the environment in a major way. Instead try swapping those out for reusable cotton rounds, washcloths, and razors made of steel instead of disposable ones. These may seem like tiny tweaks, but they’ll impact the earth in a big way without messing up your skincare routine. Want to learn more ways to be sustainable with your skincare routine? Don’t Skip The Sunscreen

Sunscreen is non-negotiable all 365 days of the year. Regardless of the weather or time of year, you should always be applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher  to your face, neck, and chest. Incorporating an SPF into your daily routine will not only keep your skin protected against the sun’s harmful rays, but also, will keep wrinkles, fine lines, and sun spots at bay. Always apply your SPF as the last step in your morning skin care routine. Just remember to reapply at least every two hours—especially if you’re out and about, swimming, or sweating a lot that day.

Swap In A Satin Pillowcase—And Wash It Weekly

You’ve probably heard about investing in a satin pillowcase for your hair, but did you know they also are great for your skin? Traditional pillowcases can be rough on your skin when you toss and turn at night. Satin pillowcases are soft, supple and flexible which easily moves with you in your sleep, rather than rubbing against your skin. This minimizes friction which can actually help reduce the look of sleep wrinkles. Another thing to note: washing your pillowcase weekly is another way to minimize unwanted breakouts and clogged pores as product buildup from your hair and skin ends up on your pillowcase while you’re sleeping.
