There’s a lot of fluff in the skincare world. A plethora of unnecessary steps and products (we’re looking at you 12-step skincare routines) that aren’t truly worth taking that extra time in your routine—especially if you don’t have it to spare.  But if there’s one step that’s actually worth doubling up for, it’s your cleansing routine. Known as double cleansing, this popular K-Beauty cleansing technique has made a splash stateside over the last few years—and for good reason. The effective cleansing method is said to ensure makeup, oil, dirt and sunscreen is no longer sitting on your skin after a long day. Ready to get into the nitty gritty of this necessary cleansing method? Keep scrolling to get all the juicy deets on what double cleansing is, why you should do it, and what Goodhabit cleansers to include in your double cleansing routine.

What Is Double Cleansing

If you guessed that double cleansing is, simply put, the act of washing your face twice, you’re correct. Basically, the technique involves washing your face meticulously with two different cleansers in order to achieve a super deep clean. But there’s more to it than that. The purpose of double cleansing is to thoroughly remove makeup and anything else sitting on your skin. Since one cleanser typically doesn’t get the job done, you’ll want to use an oil-based cleanser or micellar water first and then a water-based cleanser or exfoliator second.

How To Double Cleanse

While the particular products you use can vary depending on your skin type, there are some basic principles to follow. First, apply a cleansing oil, balm or micellar water to dry skin, then using your fingers, a cotton round, or gentle wash cloth massage the cleanser to break down the makeup, oil, and sunscreen sitting on your skin. Next, you’re going to want to wet your face (unless the product states otherwise) and go in with your second cleanser or exfoliators. Massage the product into skin, using your fingertips. Then rinse clean, pat dry, and apply the next step of your skincare routine.

What Goodhabit Products Can I Use

Luckily, we have two hero products within our lineup to help you double cleanse with ease. First begin with our rinse-free Clean Scene Micellar Gel ($28) which whisks away both waterproof and long-wearing formulas alike, as well as dirt, excess oil, and impurities without stripping your skin of essential moisture. Once the first layer of makeup, excess senum, and sunscreen is no longer there, you can go in with our NEW Glow On Oil Exfoliator ($36) to gently cleanse and exfoliate. This essential cleanser works by removing debris and dead skin cells from your skin's surface without causing irritation.
